At the Centre for Health Research and Training (CHaRT-SL), one of our key training activities is the Assessment of Research Capacity of Institutions, designed to help organisations identify and enhance their ability to conduct high-quality research. This training equips participants with the tools and methodologies needed to evaluate the research infrastructure, human resources, and technical capacity within their institutions.
The programme covers various aspects of research capacity assessment, including:
Participants learn how to assess an institution’s research environment, including the availability of funding, infrastructure, and collaborative opportunities that influence the quality and sustainability of research.
The training includes an assessment of the technical tools and processes available for research, including data collection and analysis capabilities, ethical standards, and research management practices.
This component focuses on evaluating the skills, experience, and research output of academic staff, identifying gaps, and developing strategies for capacity building through mentorship and training.
Participants are guided on how to use assessment results to inform strategic planning, ensuring that institutions can align their research goals with available resources and global research standards.
