The Comprehensive Health and Epidemiological Surveillance System (CHESS) represents a pioneering approach to health data collection and monitoring. At CHaRT-SL, we leverage CHESS to generate high-quality, timely data on both mortality and morbidity in communities across Sierra Leone. This system, which builds on existing health and demographic surveillance models, is designed to monitor key health indicators and assess the impact of socioeconomic programs on population health over time.

CHESS integrates data from urban, rural, and peri-urban settings, allowing us to track disease prevalence, mortality trends, and overall public health outcomes in a comprehensive manner. By collecting and analysing this data, CHESS supports decision-makers in shaping policies that improve health systems, inform public health interventions, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
