Dr. Margaret Kroma

An accomplished International Development Expert and Rural Sociologist, with over 18 years of experience, Dr. Margaret Kroma specializes in agriculture, food security, and natural resource management. Her work has a strong focus on integrating gender and youth perspectives within international development programs. As a recognized leader in rural innovation, Dr. Kroma has significantly contributed to enhancing smallholder agricultural systems, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Her expertise includes project design, implementation, management, strategic planning, and participatory development, all of which are key to his success in various global initiatives. She is also proficient in the use of MS Office tools and has excellent communication, team-building, and proposal-writing skills.

Dr. Kroma’s extensive professional career includes over 15 years of technical leadership and management experience in agricultural development, rural extension, and natural resource management, where she consistently integrated gender and youth dimensions into her projects. His leadership roles include serving as Senior Agricultural Development Officer at USAID, where she provided strategic and technical guidance on agricultural, food security, and natural resource management projects. She has also held senior positions at the World Agroforestry Center and AGRA, where she oversaw gender-responsive programming and rural extension education. Her work has been pivotal in capacity building and optimizing agricultural productivity through socially inclusive agroforestry interventions.

Dr. Kroma’s academic career as an Assistant Professor at Cornell University underscores his commitment to education, research, and outreach, particularly in the fields of rural extension and agricultural production systems. She has conducted research and supervised projects in various African countries, including Ghana, Mali, Niger, and Sierra Leone, with a focus on smallholder farming systems. Her extensive research portfolio includes notable publications on gender in agricultural education, youth in food systems innovation, and the role of women in Africa’s agriculture. Dr. Kroma’s work continues to influence the intersection of climate, gender, and agriculture in international development.
