Climate Change Impacts on Health, Gender and Adaptation

Climate change presents one of the most critical challenges of our time, with far-reaching consequences for public health, particularly in low-resource and vulnerable communities. At CHaRT-SL, we are leading research efforts to understand and address the complex relationship between climate change, health, and gender. Our work explores how changing climate patterns contribute to a range of health issues, from the spread of infectious diseases to the increased prevalence of non-communicable diseases, with a special focus on the disproportionate impacts on women and marginalised groups.

We believe that effective adaptation strategies must consider the unique vulnerabilities of different genders. Women, especially in rural areas, are often more affected by climate change due to their roles in securing food, water, and energy for their families. CHaRT-SL is dedicated to developing gender-sensitive adaptation measures that not only mitigate the health impacts of climate change but also empower women and communities to become more resilient.

Our research, advocacy, and partnerships focus on creating practical, evidence-based solutions that promote health equity in the face of environmental change. We collaborate with local communities, policymakers, and international organisations to ensure that health adaptation strategies are inclusive, sustainable, and address the specific needs of women and vulnerable populations. By integrating gender into our work on climate change and health, we aim to foster more just and resilient health systems.
